a MUST read...we are not alone It took me over 2 weeks to read this amazing book and I'm normally a 1-2 day per book person. Why? Because my own pain walking in David's shoes was so intense that I had to step away and could only take it in small doses. This has been our life for 20 years and I know there are specifics David didn't share/ couldn't share because it is so horrifying to know the reality of everything your child is doing to obtain these drugs of choice. It was comforting in some strange way to be inside David's head and know that I'm not alone in thinking these things and more. It is also appalling that in this great country - which gives away everywhere - that it is so incredibly difficult to find help and rehabs for those with mental health issues or addictions. The daily battle is overwhelming. There should not be such a battle/war to find reputable, effective programs for help. 28 day programs - a load of crap. Nothing of true, long lasting value can be accomplished in 28 day programs. I still remember sitting in our first family session at a program - 20 years ago. Sitting in that circle that would become yet another dreaded part of this process and listening to people talk about it being their 4th, 5th, 6th time. Thinking there is no way possible OUR child, OUR family would ever be back here doing this again. We were a good family, had raised great kids and we would handle this and fix it during this one go round. I lost track of the rehabs, the programs, the jails, the prisons a long, long time ago. I also learned a lot along the way about the impacts of things birth parents did to impact a beautiful girls destiny. Not to absolve our own part of this - all parents make mistakes along the way. But just because you received the gift of this child while they were young - it doesn't remove damage done in the womb and even as a small infant. And that terrifies me for the two beautiful baby boys that my child had and gave up to some other loving family. I worry about the predisposition to addiction those beautiful boys have been sentenced to. You learn....constantly and painfully. David captures this in his amazing book. I am debating with myself now about sharing it with my daughter so perhaps she can finally see inside our minds and hearts and understand the depths of the fear, the anger, the pain, the destruction. I want to believe that might help her/us heal if she could ever understand this isn't all about her and her pain. God help me but it does come to a place where you are glad they are locked up somewhere because at least they are safe and for a little while you can sleep....you aren't waiting for a dreaded call to come with horrid news.....or waiting for calls to come just to know they are alive. You do truly begin to dread and hate a ringing phone. Enough already. This is a true must read for any family or person that knows and loves an addict. It would be a good read for those that don't - just for their understanding and education about how this plague of addiction affects people they interact with every day and yet may not even know the hell they are living. Thank you for writing this David. I felt like I was holding my breath throughout waiting to know that Nic was still alive and was making it. I'll be reading Nic's own story next.An addict's point of view Well, I'm addicted to methamphetamine. I've been in recovery for one year, 3 months, and 11 days. When I was released from jail one year ago, I decided to read Tweak. An old friend of mine read it while he was in juvie, that's how I first heard about it. Tweak was relatable to me, and so was We All Fall Down. Nic Sheff is an amazing person, he had overcome a lot. He inspires me.So when I found out that his father also wrote a book about his son's addiction, I just had to have it. Let me tell you, Beautiful Boy tore me apart. I've only experienced life from the point of view of someone on meth. I thought I was being considerate, I always checked in with my family on a weekly basis. I was home at least twice a week. I worked full time, but still liked to go crazy with my friends. After reading this book (okay, while reading it) I cried and apologized to my parents, my grandparents, and my uncle for all the hell I had put them through. I honestly had no clue that I was hurting people so badly.If you're an addict, if you have a child that is an addict, even if you're neither, READ THIS BOOK.Power story about a family's struggle with addiction This memoir should be required reading for families, friends, educators - anyone who might be touched by another person's addiction to drugs or alcohol. David Sheff doesn't mince words nor does he try to hide behind as he recounts his family's struggles to help son Nic battle a methamphetamine addiction.Sheff writes with honesty as he experiences a full range of emotions - sadness, happiness, guilt, hope, grief - you know it and he has experienced it. Not only are emotions laid bare, but so are the facts about meth addiction, the search for treatment and the truth about long-term damages and effects. The author has interviewed many, many experts and researchers in his quest to understand what drives a person to addiction, what chances there are for a recovery and what needs to be done to get a handle on this epidemic.And epidemic it is. While the outline of his personal story is given, the heart of this book is a simplified review--aimed at the common reader--of the sequence of important constitutional cases decided by the Marshall Court. As Richard Brookhiser rightfully points out, Chief Justice Marshall, in large part, fashioned the U.S. Supreme Court into the respected and powerful third branch of government that we know today.I think this book would be an excellent choice for one thinking of attending law school; the average citizen trying to make sense of our complex constitutional heritage; anyone who thinks partisan politics first entered into the public debate over the Supreme Court and the appointment of its justices with recent Senate confirmation battles; or the reader simply seeking a short, accurate book on the life of a great American.For those who want to go deeper into constitutional history or thought, I suggest reading any book by Yale Professor Akhil Reed Amar, an expert mentioned by Mr. Brookhiser in his concluding acknowledgements.The public career and influence of the Supreme Court's greatest chief justice The life of John Marshall (1755–1835) spans the first and formative decades of the United States. Born in colonial Virginia, Marshall fought for American independence under George Washington, whom he revered as the beau ideal of a true republican and memorialized in a biography. “For the rest of his life,” Richard Brookhiser writes, “John Marshall saw Washington as his commander and himself as one of his troops.” And so, when Washington personally urged Marshall to run for Congress in 1798, he didsuccessfully, representing Virginia’s 13th District from 1799–1800.Like Washington, Marshall was a Federalist. John Adams tapped him to be U.S. Secretary of State in 1800. After the momentous 1800 election, in which Adams and the Federalists lost both the White House and Congress to Thomas Jefferson and the Democratic-Republicans, Adams appointed Marshall chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court the month before Jefferson’s inauguration. Marshall and Jefferson were cousins, and though both were patriots, they were indefatigable political foes. Marshall swore Jefferson into office, then used Supreme Court legal opinions to continue the Federalist battle against the Democrats for the next 34 years. When he died, Andrew Jackson was president. Roger Taney—author of the Dred v. Scott infamy—succeeded him as chief justice.Richard Brookhiser surveys Marshall’s “public career and its effects” in his engaging new study. This is not a comprehensive biography of the great man. In many ways, it is the story of the most significant cases he tried: Marbury v. Madison, United States vs. Burr (in which Jonathan Edwards’ grandson and Alexander Hamilton’s killer stood trial for treason), Fletcher v. Peck, Trustees of Dartmouth College v. Woodward, McCullough v. Maryland, Cohens v. Virginia, Gibbons v. Ogden, the Antelope case (touching on slavery), Ogden v. Saunders (a bankruptcy case, this Ogden being the nephew of the previous Ogden—evidence of a litigious family, no doubt; also, the only case in which Marshall wrote a dissenting opinion), The Cherokee Nation v. Georgia and Worcester v. Georgia (both cases dealing with Georgia’s abominable treatment of Native Americans), and Barron v. Baltimore, among others.Though not well known today, outside the legal profession at least, these cases were flashpoints of controversy between a broadly Federalist vision of the American republic and a Democratic one. Was the United States a “union” or a “confederacy”? Where was the boundary between federal supremacy and states’ rights? Could Congress establish a Bank of the United States without explicit wording in the Constitution? More broadly, was the law a “debt against the living,” in which generations were obligated by the laws of previous generations? Or did “the land belong in usufruct to the living,” in which each generation passed laws as it saw fit? The words were Madison’s and Jefferson’s, respectively, but the sentiments were Marshall’s and Jefferson’s exactly.Brookhiser is a political journalist, not a lawyer, so his descriptions of both the facts of these cases and their relevance are easy to follow and enlightening. In a summary chapter on Marshall’s legacy, he notes that Marshall brought “dignity” to the Supreme Court. How it tried cases and how it rendered opinions strengthened the hand of what Hamilton called “the least dangerous branch” of the federal government. If the membership and opinions of the Supreme Court loom large in the minds of Americans today, Marshall should receive credit.But more than the dignity of the Supreme Court, Marshall’s legacy, was “defending the Constitution as the people’s supreme act.” Brookhiser explains: “The people had made a new government, giving it new powers, and binding it with new prohibitions…. Marshall devoted his decades as chief justice to explicating and upholding the people’s government against the attacks of men he deemed demagogues in Congress, in the states (including his own Virginia), and in the White House (including his own cousin).” That defense relied on the Constitution’s “words” and—sometimes or—“the historical context of its creation.” Marshall knew both intimately. He had worked for the document’s ratification. He had witnessed the struggles and trials that had brought it into being.In the last months of his life, as his health deteriorated, Marshall feared for the future of the Constitution he had spent his life laboring to explain and defend. Marshall’s opinions “were substantially the policies of Washington and his most trusted aide, Alexander Hamilton”—slavery being the great exception. But by 1835, Jackson was in power, states’ rights were on the rise, and Roger B. Taney was in the wings. From then until the Civil War, an anti-Marshall view of the nature of the U.S. government and the meaning of its Constitution prevailed. It was as if the arguments between the cousins—Marshall and Jefferson—had never gone away.Today, we live in a vastly different era. Both union and emancipation are taken for granted, which they were not in Marshall’s era, not even by Marshall himself. But the court Marshall once led continues to fascinate and repel, depending on who wins and who loses before the bench. To that extent, as William Faulkner put it so well, “The past is never dead. It’s not even past.” We all live in John Marshall’s shadow.

Some insightful tidbits, lots of self justification and horn tooting I have always been on the fence about Christie and in this book he won me over a bit more. I admire the work he did as US attorney and I do think he is smart. I think he is being conned by Trump and still doesn’t see him for what he is. One thing I do agree with, he spent a lot of time and effort on the transition, and all of it went into the trash. This was due to Kushner and the axe he has to grind with his father’s arrest and conviction. I also agree that Trump filled his cabinet with grifters, and crooks, look, most are now indicted, or have plead guilty. Christie does take a lot of time in the book patting himself on the back, which I am sure many of us would do. Come on, he had the lowest rating of any governor ever when he left, he couldn’t have done that without screwing up.A Real Look Inside Of The 2016 Campaign I’ve been a fan of Gov Christie for a long time. I loved it when he got in Rubios face during the debate and Rubio melted on stage. This book provides a real account inside the 2016 election. If you’re a Republican you’ll enjoy it. This memoir reads like a fiction page-turner, partly because so few of us can relate to anything remotely like what he faced. Despite this hauntingly horrible reality he faced, Rezain’s magnanimity and wit seemed ever-present. Without trying to sound like a scmaltzy movie review, his is the ultimate triumph of the human spirit. (I finished it in two days, couldn’t put it down!)Very well written, important personal story When I saw Mr Rezaian on the news mentioning he wrote a book, I immediately downloaded it. The story is absorbing. Most Americans should remember the news stories about the WP journalists held in Iran at the end of Obama's tenure, but to read about the story from one of the prisoner's point of view is so important.The book reads like a great story - And it is. I could not put it down.Disturbing story about imprisonment in Iran Rezaian is a Washington Post reporter who got imprisoned in Iran (where he held dual citizenship) for the “crime” of reporting on public events. So did his wife, I guess for being his wife. Iran has a nasty habit of seizing hostages to use as bargaining chips. The book takes you through the story of his imprisonment and eventual release, and the friends (and enemies) he made in prison. There’s a good account (toward the end) of the Obama Administration’s reasoning and thinking in its Iran negotiations. What comes across is that Rezaian loves Iran’s people and feels deep sorrow for the way its oppressive government has betrayed them. A good read.

Today I’m going to show you the 2nd edition of our very eﬀective DMC Color Chart Book for 2019.
In fact, I recently used this exact book to assign DMC codes to a batch of unlabelled drills.
You might already know that DMC uses over 450 colors …
But what are they?
Some are clearly diﬀerent.
Some are very similar.
Tey can be difcult to distinguish from one another.
But they’re all here.
Well, you’re in for a treat! Because I’ve put together a complete list in this book!
I recently updated this book to this second edition, providing you with 4 diﬀerent charts:

Very Expensive This book is overly expensive. $29 for 29 pages and about half of the pages are duplicate so you can cut them out for easier use. Like the color cards and the feature of a second set. But the price does justify this.Not a definitive description of DCM colors I was really looking forward to using this book as a definitive description of DCM colors, but it’s not what I expected. I disagree with quite a few of the editor’s color descriptions, and find them very confusing. Are there really 10 variations of baby blue? Number 505, Grass Green, shows a color swatch that is a very pale beigy green. Certainly not the rich medium green found in other art products, like oil paints. Number 718, “Plum,” has a fuschia colored swatch next to it. I think the editor should have completely left out the color descriptions, and just stuck to the number and color swatch. Also, when I compared the color chart with packaged drills I bought from suppliers, some were so different that I feel that there is no way I can trust this book to use it as a definitive chart for DMCs.Awesome book BUT...... I absolutely love this book! I was lucky enough to putchase it when it was $13.00. It has all the colors and numbers you need to keep track of your inventory. What would make this look better is if you want to double the price, put more charts in it! There are only two charts in this book. For $13 that is a great price. For $26, it is totally not fair and unacceptable! If you want to raise the price to $26 put in four or six charts to make it worthwhile. I am very disappointed with this company for raising the price and I have told my friends not to buy it until the price goes down.

Check accuracy I had an older version of this book and updated it. Unfortunately, the prices changed on several campsites we went to--we were surprised by the price increase. I still love the book for its information, but be aware that fees have gone up in a number of locations.You get what you pay for This is a cool guide, but most of the places near me aren't. The campgrounds are way off the beaten path so not overly attractive for a typical RV camper. Still, I look forward to using the book in our travels to see what gems it turns up. Hey, just one night camping at one of the sites pays for the book, so I think the ROI will be just fine.How are you supposed to plan a trip with this book? Good concept and well done. Only one big problem with a book like this. With a computer rv park review site, you can enter where you need to stay and all openings in that area are listed. Then you make your reservation. With this book, all these places are in small towns that are hard to find on a map. If you want to plan a trip, you look for a place near a spot on a map. The book lists in alphabetical order places you never heard of and likely will take quite a while to locate on a map. They are listed by state only (big search area), not organized by county or other smaller geographic locator. How are you supposed to use this book? And do any of these places accept reservations? Things are crowded now and you must reserve a place before you leave home.
